Described as a not-for-profit LOVE project, One Word Brief calls on graphic designers everywhere to produce a creative response to one of the six following words:
CHANGE * SEARCH * FREEDOM * SOCIAL * SPACE * ENOUGH
My response, entitled ‘Corporation ink’, is based on the idea of creative FREEDOM (my chosen word). Without the restrictions of clients or agencies, represented by the smothering black ink, the designer is free to express him or herself. I wanted to give a nod to the print process colours CMYK – Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black – so used the oily black to represent the oppression and restriction of movement but the brighter colours to create the life and vitality of the bird flying free.
The hope is that the diversity of submissions received will remind everyone of the power and beauty of great graphic design and challenge a certain corporate homogeneity.
Visit facebook.com/onewordbrief for more information and updates on both the live and online exhibitions.
